Processing Time and Fees for Work Permit Applications

The processing time for work permit applications in Singapore can vary depending on the type of permit and the completeness of the application. On average, the processing time ranges from one to three weeks, but it can take longer if additional information or documents are required.

• Employment Pass (EP) applications, the MOM typically processes applications within three weeks. The application fee for an Employment Pass (EP) is SGD 105, while the issuance fee is SGD 225.
  
• S Pass applications generally take around two weeks to process. Similar to the EP, the processing time can vary based on the complexity of the application and the volume of submissions. Employers can track the status of the application online and will be notified once a decision is made. The application fee is SGD 105, and the issuance fee is SGD 150.
  
• Work Permit (WP) applications usually have a shorter processing time, with most applications being processed within one week.  Application fees are typically lower, with a processing fee of SGD 35 and an issuance fee that varies by industry.

Can Work Permit holders stay in HDB? 

Yes, Work Permit (WP) holders can stay in HDB flats, but only under certain conditions, and depending on who they are living with and what type of work they do.

1. A WP Holder cannot rent HDB flats on their own.

• WP holders cannot rent entire HDB flats independently.
  
• Only Singapore Citizens or PRs can rent out whole HDB units, and even then, only to certain pass holders under approved conditions.
  

2. WP Holders can stay as tenants in HDB rooms, but:

• The flat owner must be eligible to rent out rooms (e.g., meeting the Minimum Occupation Period).
  
• The Work Permit holder must be from an approved sector (e.g., construction, marine, manufacturing, etc.), and the employer must provide proper housing records.
  
• For foreign domestic workers, they must stay in the employer’s registered address.
  

3. Living with relatives (Singaporeans/PRs) is allowed.

• A WP holder can live in an HDB if they are staying with immediate family members (e.g., spouse or sibling) who are Singaporeans or PRs.

Can a Work Permit Holder Marry a Singaporean?

WP holders (current or former) must seek written approval from MOM if they wish to marry a Singapore Citizen or PR, in Singapore or overseas.

This rule applies even if the Work Permit has been cancelled — unless the WP holder has been converted to another pass type (e.g., S Pass, EP, PR).If you marry a Singaporean without MOM’s approval, you may be, banned from working in Singapore again or barred from applying for PR or dependent privileges.
